The
Frederick P. Rose Architectural Fellowship was
established in 1999 by The Frederick P. and Sandra P. Rose Foundation
to assist recent architectural school graduates in directing their
skills in the service of low and moderate-income communities. The
Fellowship is designed to promote architectural and community design in
low-income communities and encourages architects to become life-long
leaders in public service and community development. The Fellowship
honors the late Frederick P. Rose, a prominent philanthropist and
developer, who believed strongly in the value of good design and the
spirit of public service.
The Fellowship includes a 3-year stipend of $40,000 per year.
Applicants are expected to identify, and work for, a local Community
Development Corporation (CDC) or a local Non-Profit Organization (NPO)
for the 3-year period. The sponsoring CDC or NPO is expected to provide
space and general overhead costs, as necessary, and may choose to
augment the stipend, if they so desire.
The Fellowship is managed and administered by The Enterprise
Foundation, a national, non-profit housing and community development
organization. Its mission is to ensure that all low-income people in
the United States have the opportunity for fit and affordable housing
and to move up and out of poverty and into the mainstream of American
life.
Through Enterprise’s network of more than 1100 non-profit,
community-based organizations in over 400 locations, they are helping
to build a national movement to promote housing and community
development in low-income neighborhoods. Since 1982, Enterprise has
helped develop more than 100,000 new and renovated homes by raising and
committing more than $3 billion in loans, grants and equity investments.
