United Nations International School

The United Nations International School (UNIS) selected Jonathan Rose Companies as their Owner’s Representative in the Spring of 2007. Phase one involved a feasibility study for new construction and renovation of the School’s Manhattan Campus. Facility and site improvements will support UNIS vision of providing an “environment for optimal learning and teaching in an international setting that fosters understanding and cooperation.”

UNIS is an Independent, international K-12 school founded by parent employees of the United Nations. Inspired by the ideals of the UN, the school serves children and youth from the UN community, the diplomatic corps, the non-governmental international sector and local New York families. It is a microcosm of a world for which all peace loving people yearn.

The project is intended to enhance educational programs for UNIS’s community of approximately 1,400 students. Included is a new entry and lobby, a large auditorium with support spaces, additional classrooms, and a multiuse gymnasium. The mechanical and life safety systems will be upgraded to meet current standards.

Both the renovation and any new construction will be designed to meet at least LEED Silver standards, providing an ideal atmosphere for learning and as an integral teaching tool to enhance environmental literacy among the students, staff and families.
