Orange Hope VI
Orange, New Jersey

Orange, New Jersey

Jonathan Rose Companies served as the Program Manager for the planning of the Housing Authority of the City of Orange’s “HOPE VI Redevelopment Plan: A Transit Village.” On behalf of the Housing Authority, we initiated a participatory planning and design process with stakeholders and residents in the City of Orange in preparation for submittal of a successful Transit Village application to the state of New Jersey, and a HOPE VI Revitalization Application to HUD.

The program that we designed involves the demolition of 140 units of public housing, construction of new mixed-income rental and for-sale housing, acquisition of land formerly zoned commercial and/or industrial, relocation of residential and commercial tenants, and the provision of a case-management centered social service program for very low income families. In addition to new housing construction, the Redevelopment Plan focuses on creating a pedestrian friendly environment, improving the community’s access to the Orange NJ Transit Station, and new streetscape and infrastructure improvements.
