Yale University’s Center for Public Service and Social
Justice, more familiarly known as Dwight Hall, is the largest student
run public service organization in the country. It is housed in Dwight
Hall on Yale’s campus in New Haven, Connecticut and serves as
a home base for more than 70 student organizations that provide
services to 20,000 children and adults every year. Recently, Yale
University and Dwight Hall embarked on an initiative to completely
renovate the historic structure. This campaign will enable Dwight Hall
to preserve and protect its magnificent historical
building—the second oldest on campus—and to enrich
and expand its programs. Jonathan Rose Companies has been retained by
Dwight Hall to advise them on an ongoing basis during the course of
this project, particularly on issues regarding facility programming and
environmentally advanced design.
Built as Yale’s first library in 1842, Dwight Hall is a
registered historic landmark and has not seen significant renovation
since the 1930’s. Jonathan Rose Companies is working with
Dwight Hall to navigate the many issues associated with renovating
their building, including the challenge of introducing environmentally
responsible design features to a historic structure. We are also
working with Dwight Hall to help them frame a scope of work that will
deliver a building that is programmatically flexible and will include
office, meeting rooms, gathering areas and a performance
space.
