Senior Project Accountant

Jonathan Rose Companies, an environmentally-responsible planning, development, investment and project management company, is looking for an experienced Director for its Civic, Cultural and Educational Development (CC+ED) Group, which provides development, project management and strategic consulting services to our educational, cultural and civic clients. 

This position will report directly to Jonathan F. P. Rose, and will participate in all senior management roles and responsibilities. The Director will work in partnership with the Directors of the other practice areas, the Regional Directors of the New Haven, Denver and Albuquerque offices and, together with the CFO, be part of the Management Committee which provides the strategic oversight for the activities of JRCo. 

The CC+ED Group works with public sector and non-profit clients to strategically plan, program, design, finance, construct and asset manage civic, cultural, and educational buildings often in collaboration with the JRCo Planning and Housing Development Practices.  The CC+ED Group also works at the neighborhood, city and regional scale on the civic components of transit-oriented development and open space projects.

The ideal candidate should be a recognized leader, and must have deep experience in both practice and policy in one or more of the following fields:

  • K-12 Schools
  • Colleges and universities
  • Cultural institutions
  • Civic and governmental facilities (e.g. GSA)
  • Parks and open space
  • Transit or other infrastructure
  • Non-profit facility development and asset management
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the CC+ED Group’s business development activities, reach out to new customers and markets, oversee the development of proposals, and follow-up with customers
  • Develop and maintain business opportunities and establish and track annual practice group objectives
  • Provide leadership and direction for practice group
  • Manage staff, project controls and quality, and practice group resources
  • Work collaboratively and promote integrated, cross-disciplinary approaches with other JRCo practice groups
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to clients
  • Assist clients in developing project governance structures
  • Oversee all work generated from the practice group, participate in the development of the work, match work with skill sets among staff, and review drafts and provide outlines, information, direction, etc.
  • Represent the company with clients and in project meetings
  • Ensure consistency in all work that represents JRCo’s core values, mission, and overall approach
  • Identify, incorporate and implement value-added ideas and approaches in all projects

The candidate must have experience in green building and integrated design; a practical understanding of the development process from project conceptualization, design, finance, to construction completion and operations; and be able to provide direction to a group of diverse internal team members and external consultants through an integrated design process to create model projects.  This position also requires sound knowledge of, and experience with, public and private funding instruments, entitlement processes, and public policy that affect the development process.

SENIOR PROJECT ACCOUNTANT
KATONAH & NEW YORK CITY OFFICES



We are seeking an individual with a positive attitude, strong work ethic and good interpersonal skills for a Senior Project Accountant position. This position will report to the Controller and will work closely with Project Managers and other accounting staff.  This position also requires the ability to work from our offices in NYC and Katonah as needed.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise junior staff processing payables and receivables
  • Maintain accounting records for development projects
  • Review draw requests from partners for completeness and accuracy
  • Prepare financing requests submitted to lenders
  • Prepare detailed budget progress reports, variance reports, and cash flow reports
  • Track pay requisitions, requests for information and change order schedules
  • Work with Project Managers to monitor job progress
  • Work with outside accountants on tax returns
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial reports in accordance with JV and loan agreements
  • Assist in other areas of corporate accounting and special projects as required
Requirements:

  • BS majoring in Accounting
  • Familiarity with proformas, financing, real estate development, and construction
  • Excellent accounting and financial skills
  • 5+ years of work experience, preferably in a real estate development or construction environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage many complex projects simultaneously and contribute productively in a team environment
  • Excellent technology skills (Excel, etc.) are required
  • Knowledge of Yardi software, including Job Costing, preferred
  • Knowledge of tax credit development projects preferred.
